Frequently Asked Questions
What are the primary route changes?
The primary route changes are for routes 3, 8, 11, 13 and 15. Some route names will be modified because of the changes.
- Route 3: Route 3 will be split into 2 separate routes with the main route 3 now ending at Sam’s Club/Walmart. A new Route 3A will be formed that will run from Sam’s Club/Walmart on Corunna up Linden Rd. to Pierson Rd. Aldi’s. The outbound route 3 will no longer perform the Linden/Bristol/Miller portion and will instead turn right at Linden and go into Genesee Valley Mall. There will be no hold at the mall. The inbound from Sam’s/Walmart will no longer go into Genesee Valley Mall, but instead will have 2 new stops on the opposite side of Linden Rd. The inbound will go down Linden to Bristol and then back up Miller Rd.
- Route 8: For route 8, we’ll be adding a 3rd bus during the daytime to help improve the on-time performance of this service. The route will be simplified and will no longer pull into the Grand Mall.
- Route 11: Route 11 will no longer pull into the South Flint Plaza out of safety concerns. The bus will stay on Fenton Rd. with a new stop near Hemphill. The new end of the line stop will be at Kings Lane Apartments.
- Route 13: Route 13 outbound will now go Pierson to Linden Rd., down to Pasadena Ave., over to Clio Rd. back up to Pierson, and out to Dort Highway, turn right, and then go down Dort to Davison Rd., then to Belsay Rd., and down to the Court St. Walmart and from there it will go on to the Meijer on Center Rd. The inbound route 13 goes straight down Pierson Rd to Aldi’s and does not go down Clio to Pasadena to Linden
- Route 15: The redesigned route 15 will take passengers to Courtland Center, the Walmart on Court St., and will continue out from there to N. Irish Rd and down to the Davison Meijer on Lapeer Rd.
- Combined Routes: At 6:30 PM Monday through Saturday until close of business, and Sunday 9:00 AM until close of business, there will be a combined route 4/5 and a combined route 7/6. During these times, one bus will be running both routes and will only pick up and drop off on one side of the street. The final departure from downtown will complete the entire route before exiting service for the day. Additional signage will be added to posts to signify that there is no service on that side of the street. If you see that sign and it’s beyond the service window shown, please move to a stop across the street.
What are the goals of the changes?
Improve service, operational improvements, and expand access to groceries, medical facilities, and educational institutions.
Are these permanent changes?
Yes, the MTA Board of Directors approved the changes to be effective on November 17th, 2025, at their meeting held on October 23, 2025. That said, MTA will monitor the changes and may make minor adjustments if needed.
Will evening service be affected?
Yes – Routes 4 – Civic Park & 5 – Dupont as well as Routes 6 – Lewis – Selby & 7 – Franklin routes will be combined beginning at 6:30 PM Monday through Saturday until the close of business. The combined routes will also run on Sunday 9:00 AM until close of business.
Why does MTA want to make these changes?
In 2024, MTA ran a primary route study that noted several issues and possible changes needed in the primary route system. After reviewing the report, MTA decided a change was needed. While not all the proposed changes are related to the study, they also present opportunities to improve the overall system and provide more opportunities for passengers. Other recommendations from the route study will be considered in the future.
Will these changes accommodate ADA passengers?
Yes, all our primary route buses are ADA accessible. The only thing changing is the routes themselves.
Will these changes cause a fare increase?
No, fare’s will not be impacted by these changes and are not planned for an increase at this time.
